Thank You!

Thank you to all the wonderful couples, families, and friends who invited us to join them as they celebrated Valentine's Day.  This wonderful opportunity allows us to give a unique experience to those who may not know what the barbershop style is all about.

We love every moment of it and no amount of snow can keep up from spreading that barbershop love.

Thank you!

Next up for us is our district competition and spring time singouts!  Look for more information as those events come closer.

Sing Your “Part” Out!

posted Jul 27, 2015, 11:52 AM by Daniel George   [ updated Oct 20, 2015, 8:14 AM ]

Are you a Lead, Bass, Tenor or Baritone? The Miami Valley Music Men will help you discover your part. Enjoy a performance, then harmonize with us!

Kettering-Moraine Tuesday, 9/1, 6:30 p.m.
Belmont Tuesday, 9/15, 6:30 p.m.
Burkhardt Tuesday, 9/29, 6:30 p.m.
East Tuesday, 10/13, 6:30 p.m.

In our Dayton Metro Library sessions, we will first perform a few songs to familiarize attendees to our musical style. Then we will distribute sheet music and teach a simple barbershop song. First, everyone will sing the melody (called the “lead” part). Everyone who feels most comfortable there (by range or comfort) will continue to sing lead. Other parts will be introduced one by one, and participants can try out each one for range and comfort, resulting eventually in having everyone singing one of the four parts. The “lead” usually sings the melody, as indicated above. The “bass” provides the lowest voice and anchors the chords. The “tenor” sings above the lead, and the “baritone” gets whatever note is needed to finish the chord. Time and interest permitting, we may teach a second song, form quartets with participants, or perform more of our repertoire.

Everyone attending will receive a coupon for discounted tickets to our upcoming show on October 24.

Barbershop singing is open to men and women, adults and children. Traditional barbershop quartets are composed of men, but “Sweet Adeline” quartets and choruses are available for women, and some quartets employ mixed voices.

Camaraderie

posted May 20, 2015, 7:44 AM by Daniel George   [ updated Jul 27, 2015, 11:39 AM ]

There is something about Monday nights with the Miami Valley Music Men that can erase the worries of the day.

The last few weeks (months) have been very busy in my personal/professional life.  I've missed more meetings than I've made.  However, there is always a friendly hello and great conversation when I walk through those auditorium doors.

If you need a place to leave the outside world behind for a few hours and share in the experience of great song singing with a great group of guys, there is no better place to be on Monday nights.  Come out and join us.  We are always happy to have you with us.

The enthusiasm our members have for this great hobby is one you have to be present to feel.  Check our calendar for meeting times.  We're preparing great songs for our shows this year and every week provides the opportunity to jump right into the mix.

Guest Night

posted Apr 23, 2015, 11:55 AM by Daniel George   [ updated May 15, 2015, 9:39 AM ]

On May 4th, we'll be having a special guest night.  While we love having guests every Monday night, our special guest nights are tailored to those new to barbershop.

We'll help you find what part you sing, sit you with a great group of guys who can help you with the music, and then entertain you with our chorus and quartets.  Did we mention that there'll be snacks?

Please come on out and experience the barbershop style.  Directions can be found here:  Contact Us
